The University Of Washington tortures, maims, and kills animals. They waste vast amounts of taxpayer money. These cruel and wasteful experiments do nothing to advance human health. Tell the UW that caring people will not stand for their atrocities.
The University of Washington tortures and kills animals, conducts fraudulent science,
and wastes taxpayer money.

Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is: 'Because the animals are like us.' Ask the experimenters why it is morally okay to experiment on animals, and the answer is: 'Because the animals are not like us.' Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction. ~Charles R. Magel

Important Upcoming Event:

World Week for Animals in Labs 2008
Protest at UW Western Ave Facility

When: Thursday, April 24th @ 4 - 6pm
Where: UW Primate Facility on Western (3010 Western Ave)

Over 20,000,000 million animals suffer and die in U.S. laboratories every year. These innocent victims are subjected to addictive drugs, caustic chemicals, ionizing radiation, chemical and biological weapons, electric shock, deprivation of food and/or water, psychological torture and many other horrors. World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week (April 20th - 26th, 2008) is the time when activists come together to make a difference for these animals.

In the United States approximately 1100 labs experiment on animals every day. During 2006 the number of primates used in experimentation reached an all time high -- 62,315. These animals are depending on us to fight for their freedom.

NARN is not letting the UW off the hook. Thanks to the efforts of PETA and SAEN (Stop Animals Exploitation Now), hundreds of documents have been uncovered that show flagrant abuses by animal researchers. The scientists that claim their work is necessary and done only to help people have blatantly ignored their own staff veterinarians. Aside from the incredibly sloppy science these doctors practice, how exactly, does inserting electrodes into the brains of monkeys help people?

We have confirmed widespread violations of animal protection regulations involving studies in which experimenters cut off the tops of monkeys' skulls, insert electrodes into their brains, and implant wire coils in their eyes. The monkeys are then restrained in experimentation chairs, with their heads bolted in place so that they can't move while experimenters track their eye movements. They are kept hungry or thirsty much of the time so that they'll comply during tests to get a sip of water or a bite of food.

To learn more about the abuses at the UW Primate Center, check out www.uwkillsanimals.com and S.A.E.N.

We will be meeting at The Olympic Sculpture Park across the street from the University of Washington Primate Center, 3010 Western Ave.

Please take some time out of your busy day to speak up for these animals who are tortured in UW’s laboratories. They do not have a voice, so we must use ours to speak out for them

Signs and leaflets will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact Deb DebraD@peta.org. We hope to see you there!

Let's get as many people as possible out for this event! Please cross-post this e-mail and invite your friends and family members!

NEWS: KOMO TV Exposes Some Of UW's Crimes
On Tuesday, 26 February, KOMO TV ran an expose' of unauthorized and extremely painful sugeries performed on monkies at UW, and the resulting investigation which may lead to defunding and penalties.

You can watch the video and read related documents at KOMO's website.

KOMO will air a follow-up tonight (Wednesday) at 6 PM.

Do you work with animals at the UW?
We need to hear from you!

One person with courage, compassion, and conviction can make a huge difference! If you are a student or caretaker who is currently working with, or previously has worked with animals at the University of Washington, NARN needs to hear from you! Please contact us, and be the hero the thousands of animals at the UW need.

The University of Washington, along with the affiliated Washington Regional Primate Research Center (WaRPRC), breeds, confines and experiments on tens of thousands of animals every year, with little, if any accountability to students and the public.

Federal taxpayer funding for animal testing at UW exceeded a quarter billion dollars last year. Concerned students and citizens are starting to ask the tough questions, like where are the results? How do animals serve as good models for human health? And why is it morally justifiable to experiment on animals at all?

Please... get educated, get active, and help stop these cruel and wasteful practices at the University of Washington.

Maternal Deprivation - A Long and Brutal History

The University of Washington's researchers continue to carry on one of the most brutal, most insensitive types of animal experiments -- depriving infant monkeys of maternal contact.

Dr. Wayne Johnson, a psychotherapist formerly on staff at UW and president of the Seattle-based Northwest Animal Rights Network, takes a hard look at the realities of maternal deprivation experiements.
